Spotlight on the cobblestones

- The Red Carpet of
Saint Christopher

At a time when the idea of restructuring the village's main street is taking shape, this project aims to take a fresh, special look at the cobblestones that line it, an important heritage marker that bears witness to so many heritage features.

At a time when the idea of restructuring the village's main street is taking shape, this project aims to take a fresh, special look at the cobblestones that line it, an important heritage marker that bears witness to so many particular histories. To this end, the image of the stone statue of St. Christopher (a 14th-century oratory) located near the cobblestone street was reproduced and deployed on the street, from the church to the town hall: a ‘red carpet - St. Christopher’ invoking the protector of travelers, who at the same time becomes the protector of this stone floor.

This highly mobilizing participatory project, set in the public domain, took the form of a pixelated image (one paving stone=one pixel) painted with acrylic in shades of red, measuring 43 metres by 5.5 metres.

They are important heritage markers, bearing witness to so many special stories. To achieve this, the image of the stone statue of Saint Christopher (a 14th-century oratory) located near the cobbled street was reproduced and laid out on the street, from the church to the town hall: a ‘red carpet - Saint Christopher’ invoking the protector of travellers, who at the same time becomes the protector of this stone floor.
